This was my second year submitting photos into the Shoot & Share Photo Contest. The contest is free and you can enter up to 50 photos with 25 different categories. Anyone can vote. I even had my mom, dad, brother and extended family voting, lol.  Let me tell you, voting can be addicting and so fun. While voting, four photos randomly pop up in their category and you vote for your favorites. During voting you have no idea whose picture belongs to what, but at the end of the contest you find out the results. Once the results are posted you can find out information on the photos you liked and who took them. You will also find out where each of the photos you submitted placed. There are some incredibly talented photographers out there. This year I had two photos that were finalists, which means they went to the very last round, Round 12. I don’t mean to brag, but excited to share these big accomplishments as they come along. Here are the photos below…

Maggie-Blog

This photo is of my brother’s new puppy, Maggie. She was 8 weeks old and so adorable! Out of 10,102 photos in the Pets/Animals Category, little Maggie placed 425.

Justin-Blog

This photo also made the finalist round. Little Justin fought a hard battle of cancer and went to be with Jesus the summer of 2016. I was hoping and praying this photo would make it all the way to the end and it did. This was the last time I saw him and he was having such a good day. I love this picture so much. We love and miss you, Justin. Out of 1,373 photos in the Passion Portraits: Giving Back Category, Justin’s photo placed 458.

Ballet-Blog

This is a photo of my little one in her ballet outfit. She had her first year of ballet in 2016. Let me tell you, it was the cutest thing ever. She asks everyday when she can do ballet again. We hope to get her back into it very soon. Out of 22,953 photos submitted in the Children: Babies & Toddlers Category, my little lady’s photo placed 1,747 and made it to round 8, which is the top 10% of photos.

Wildflowers-Blog

This photo is of my little ladies in a beautiful wildflower field we stumbled across last year for our Mother’s Day photo session. They were having a great time playing in the flowers. I can’t wait for this field to bloom again this year. Out of 23,969 photos submitted in the Children: Kids/Teen Category, this sweet photo placed 2,902 and made it to round 7, which is the top 20% of photos.

Kali-Blog

This is a photo of my beautiful friend. She was pregnant with baby girl #2 and looked absolutely stunning during her maternity session. Out of 12,359 in the Maternity Category, this photo placed 1,408, which made it to round 8 and was the top 20%.

Makery-Blog

Lastly, this was my little lady again. We got to spend the morning at a fun sign making studio that a friend of mine owns. Out of 22,953 photos submitted in the Children: Babies & Toddler, this photo placed 3,779, which made it to round 7 and was in the top 20%.

I am so honored and thankful to be among some seriously talented photographers who have incredible photos. I look forward to next year’s contest.

Meet the Carlson’s. I enjoyed walking around one of my favorite spots on a beautiful fall day, while getting to know them a little more. They are such a fun family. The kiddos were absolutely adorable. I love to see their little personalities come alive in photos. It’s also neat to have mom and dad get in some by themselves. Often times, the kiddos love to see that and help with posing. Thank you Carlson family. It was a pleasure meeting you and I hope to see your sweet family again soon.

Newborn Award Badge

I’m so excited to announce that I’ve been named one of the top 19 newborn photographers in the Tacoma area on Expertise. Woo hoo! What an honor to be among some of the most talented photographers in this area. I was notified last week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Over the past month or so I have struggled with thoughts of whether God wants me to continue doing photography, or take a little break. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE photography, but to be completely honest you can get burnt out and frustrated easily. I strive for more. I’m not at all where I want to be and want more for my business. My prayer was for clarity and direction. It is amazing when God hears your prayers and answers. I’ve had several confirmations (including this award) that I need to dig my heels in and continue on this incredible journey he has given me. I am so thankful!

Thank you so much Expertise for the recognition. It means the world to me. Check out the awesome write up they did for each photographer. 19 Best Newborn Photographers in Tacoma

Just remember folks, hard work does pay off. Keep going!

It’s always a treat to see this wonderful family. We had a blast playing in the blankets of fall leaves at one of our local parks. As always, the girls were dressed so cute and had fun that day with the leaves and their umbrellas. You never know in the Pacific Northwest if it will rain all of a sudden, so it is better to be prepared than not. The clear umbrellas made for a fun photo prop. Some of my favorite photos from this session were the candid ones. I love to capture those raw moments. Thank you Patoc family! I hope to see you again soon.

My friend Kali is absolutely stunning. She was expecting baby girl #2 and asked if I could take some maternity photos for her. We got some lovely photos of Kali and her oldest daughter, as well as, some by herself. We took them on a beautiful summer evening with the prettiest golden hour light on their family property. It was an honor taking these photos. Thank you Kali for asking. Hope to see you again soon.

I love getting to see friends from high school and meet their sweet little family. I went to high school with Nenette and Russell and was honored when they asked if I could take some family photos for them. We had a lot of fun walking around downtown Tacoma. While big brother loved the camera, it was little brother who wasn’t so sure about it. They both were adorable as can be. Thank you Peterson family. I hope to see you guys again soon.

Meet baby Troy. He was such a sweetheart to photograph. In the first few photos he was in the same outfit his big brother was in as a newborn. I love seeing sentimental pieces like that being passed down. His family was getting ready to make a big move across country, so I am thankful we got these in before they left. I hope and pray they are doing well in their new home and wish nothing, but the best for their sweet family. Many blessings Scott family, it was a wonderful meeting you and I hope we cross paths again one day soon.

Remember the Farley’s? They were troopers and endured some freezing cold temps during their session last winter. We had to cut their session fairly short because we all were frozen popsicles. Even though we got some great ones that day,  I wanted to be sure we got some more photos for them. Session number two was sunny and warm out. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was great to see them and little Caroline is a doll. Thank you Farley’s! I hope to see you again soon.

I met this sweet family through my daughter’s school. It was an honor when they asked if I could take some maternity photos for them. They are expecting baby boy #2 and wanted to document this special time in their lives. We had fun walking up and down the sandy beach. Isn’t momma-to-be absolutely stunning? She was glowing! Thank you Scott family for such a fun evening. What a blessing it was to take photos for you guys. I’m excited to meet your new little guy when he arrives.

Meet Jayden, a 2016 graduate. I was excited when I found out she loved flowers, and wanted her photos taken with them. I stumbled across this beautiful daisy field and knew it would be perfect. Jayden was such a sweetheart to work with. Not to mention she is absolutely gorgeous! I wish I looked that good as a senior, lol. She was such a natural in front of the camera and made my job so easy. Between the beautiful daisies, Jayden’s beauty and the golden sunset it was a magical session indeed. I wish her the best of luck on her new journey and many blessings ahead.

Meet Brian. He’s a 2016 Emerald Ridge graduate. Brian’s parents have been family friends of ours for many years. It was an honor to take his senior portraits. He’s become such an awesome young adult. Brian is an excellent soccer player so we had to get some photos in with his favorite soccer players jersey, as well as, some with his lovely girlfriend. Many blessings for him as he embarks on a new journey.

This was my first year submitting photos into the Shoot & Share Photo Contest. I was so excited to see two of my mine made it to the Top 100 in their category. Here are the photos below.

Mady-Blog

This is my oldest daughter. We were taking pictures of her and her little sis in their Easter dresses. What I love about it is, this pose was completely candid. She’s was just looking out at the buildings nearby. Who would have thought an old beat up graffiti garage would be the perfect setting to create some gorgeous portraits. I love this picture so much. It’s by far my most favorite photo of her to date. Out of 22,299 photos submitted in the Children: Kids/Teens Category, it placed 22nd. So amazing!

Tulips-Blog

The other photo to make it to the Top 100 was a picture of some beautiful tulips I had gotten for our kitchen table. I think I need to print this up and frame in my house somewhere. It reminds me of spring and is so bright and cheery. Out of 11,400 photos in the Personal Work Category, it placed 80th.

What a fun experience! It was the first time I had ever submitted my photos to be voted on. I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect, but so glad I did. I look forward to next years contest.

Meet precious little Cora. She was only a few days old when we did her newborn session and was a doll to photograph. I love the soft yellow and pops of color her momma incorporated. The beautiful rainbow banner was made by her momma’s friend from The Olive Grove Shop. Thank you Silva family for having photograph this special time in your life. You have a beautiful family! Hope to see you all again in the near future.

We did a best friends photo session with Lani and Kayla. One friend is moving South and the other is moving to a different country. I loved this idea their momma’s had to do a best friend session right before they go off on their new adventures. Such a special way to remember each other and look at when they are feeling a little home sick and miss one another. We took them to their favorite diner, Don’s Ruston Market & Deli. Both girls love their milkshakes and I do have to say they are delish! The owner of the diner was amazing and let us do some fun shots around the malt machine. We also can’t forget the adorable outfits they wore expressing their love for Harry Potter and the phrase, “We solemnly swear that we are up to no good”, and “Mischief Managed”, lol. We then headed out to a pretty white bridge down the street that overlooked the city. Wishing both girls and their families safe travels and the best on their new journey.

I had the pleasure of photographing my daughters’ teachers new baby girl. What a treat it was! Baby girl was awake and alert for most of her session, just taking in this whole new world around her. Eventually she drifted off into a little sleep and we got a few more. Big sister was equally excited about her new baby sister and got in a few frames as well. They both are so beautiful! Thankful to have had the opportunity to take a few photos of this special time in their life.

Meet the Farley’s! Not only are they an incredibly fun family, they are are also troopers that endured freezing cold temperatures during their session. We did as many shots as we could before we all froze. We made an executive decision to stop and do another little session during the summer when it’s much warmer. They were also awesome and did their session while our favorite Seahawks were playing, so we checked the score often. Thank you Farley’s! You guys are the best.
